Observation from Nature

I've been noticing some of the intricacies of mothering in the barn. There's been a few times where I've had a cow calve, and for whatever reason, the mother was too weak or too tired to get up and clean off her new calf. It has been very interesting to note that more often than not, a neighbouring cow will help out, and will clean the calf off and encourage it to stand up.

On a smaller scale, I've noticed something similar with a litter of kittens. While the mother cat is out mousing, very often one of her sisters will sit with the kittens and keep them warm.

Animals are not intelligent in the same way we are, so there is seemingly no real possibility that these sister cats or stall-mates are helping out just to look good. They are helping because they are hard wired to do so.

How often do we people miss out on the blessings given us by our heavenly Father when we are too busy pursuing our own goals to help others?

Family, friends, and church fellowship are all places where God has designed genuine fellowship and caring love to happen. They are a gift intended for us to enjoy.

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone" (Gen. 2:18a)
